Background / About Us
The Tourism Management Program intends to co-host an international seminar known as the 1st International Conference on Islamic Tourism & Economic Sustainability (#ICITES2025). This seminar is a co-organization where the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) is the main organizer. In this regard, the Tourism Management Program wishes to be the main organizer of ICITES 2025 to provide an open space and platform for academicians, researchers, postgraduate students, media practitioners, and government agencies and NGOs interested in the field of management and tourism. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss, and subsequently find solutions to the problems faced by Muslims in the field of Islamic tourism and hospitality.
The organization of ICITES 2025 is themed Fostering Socio-Economic & Islamic Tourism towards Sustainability in the Digital Era in conjunction with the current global geo-political and economic situation that affects the entire industry. In this dynamic and challenging period, the need to collaborate and work together to overcome current obstacles and navigate the path especially for the future of the Islamic tourism and hospitality industry is very great. Therefore, the efforts of combined abilities and common goals play an important role; therefore, the organization of the 1st ICITES 2025 can be used as a platform to express suggestions and ideas to academically explore issues and challenges as well as short-term and long-term solutions to all matters involving the future of the Islamic tourism and hospitality industry. This seminar also aims to deepen and foster cultural interactions and exchanges that result in knowledge transfer and experience sharing.
In addition, it can expose academic staff to the process of managing international-standard seminar programs and can strengthen and increase intellectual and research networks among academics both locally and abroad.
